It's a dismal day when water scarcity becomes a bigger global threat than climate change.  That day, by the way, came back in August, when the results of a global public opinion survey comissioned by Circle of Blue revealed that that is indeed the case: water scarcity, oblivious to it as we are here in the land of water and honey, is felt by the majority of global occupants to be the most significant environmental threat facing us today.

So what do we do about it?  If you want to have a huge impact, start by dropping golf and going vegan.  If you want to do the bare minimum, start by installing low flow aerators on all your water faucets and low flow showerheads.  The latter we've discussed in numerous posts here. They're super effective, and newer, high quality models provide a bathing experience that can't be beat by an old clunker.  In fact, one post back in the spring discussed how relatives coming to visit the Troast family didn't know their showerhead was a low flow at all.

The former are often overlooked. They shouldn't be. A good aerator like the Whedon Ultra Saver Faucet Aerator can cut the flow on a faucet to as low as 0.5 gallons per minute, without trickling or making your tooth-brushing experience a tooth-ache.  0.5 gallons per minute, by the way, is a super-hero water flow: faucets typically run at 2.5-3 gpm.  So this particular aerator is enormously effective at conserving water, while still providing a steady, forceful flow.  Water saving technology has come a long way in the last few years, and this aerator shows it. Plus, at $3.50, it costs pennies, so will pay for itself in saved water heating costs before you can even tell your neighbors about it. (And yes, you should tell your neighbors about it).  Oh, and it's easy to install, too.

While the world teeters on the brink of a water-shortage catastrophe, installing a Whedon Ultra Saver faucet aerator or two is a small move with a big collective impact.  It's a no-brainer.
