Energy Efficiency Tax Credits for Insulation: Get Your Foam On.

Two of the most effective, high-ROI improvements you can make to your home are air sealing and improving your insulation.  Unglamorous as both steps may sound, they will make your home more comfortable, reduce your energy consumption, and save you money. The federal tax credit for energy efficiency improvements (whose 2009 deadline is fast approaching), makes this a better time than any to take on the leaks, gaps and cracks that lead to drafts and waste in your house.

One of the most effective means of air sealing and insulating is using spray foam. Whether you just need a bit of insulation along a rim joist, or a full blown overhaul of your attic insulation, spray foam is often the perfect solution.

We're highlighting these products because they are extraordinary performers, and, like all air-sealing products, they qualify for the energy efficiency tax credit. Not only that, getting credit is a snap. To get your money back, simply submit this form when you do your taxes, and print out and save this certification statement (pdf) for your records.

The government will pay for 30% of the cost of the following spray foam products, capped out at $1500:
  • Quick Cure Straw Foam: An easy, low-cost air sealing solution for big gaps around pipes and other gaping spaces.
  • Touch 'n Seal High Expansion Foam Kit - 15 board ft.: This heavy-duty, two-part, expanding foam can be used as both an air sealing product and an insulating material. Ideally suited for blocking leaks along rim joists, gaps in framing, under crawl spaces and wall and floor/ceiling intersections, this foam is also available in a 200 board ft. kit and 600 board ft. kit (which contains enough foam to insulate a small room).
Spray foam is a great, high-ROI way to take advantage of the stimulus bill's economic incentives for energy efficiency, and we're sure these products will make a difference - both in the comfort of your home and in your energy bills.   If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. We'd love to help.
