Here at Energy Circle, we love chocolate, we love the Easter Bunny, and we're hazelnuts about energy efficient lighting. So this clever video from Cree Inc., which "highlights" not only the gross inefficiency but the destructive power of incandescent lighting, really hit us in a soft spot.
Cree is one of our favorite vendors—both for the elegant, practical utility of their LED lighting products and for their adept customer service and social media crew (follow them on Twitter @Cree). So we were psyched when we came across this great video and couldn't pass up sharing it:
Curious for more info? The tremendous heat produced by incandescent lights, which release 90% of their energy as heat, first caught our attention during a home energy audit back in May. That's when we first posted a video detailing the temperature differences between incandescent, CFL, and LED lights as found with an infrared camera:
For sure, this stuff is cute and entertaining. But it's worth recognizing that the waste heat produced by incandescent bulbs has real energy implications (aside from the huge electricity difference), especially as we move into the cooling season. Just think of all those incandescent bulbs as mini space heaters throughout your house. They create more heat that your air conditioner will just end up offsetting by using even more electricity, all summer long.
Now if you're really feeling proactive, check out some of Cree's cool LED lighting products in our energy efficient light shop. It may be April Fools' Day. But chocolate bunnies everywhere beware: Incandescent lights can kill. No joke.

It was totally worth sacrificing a chocolate LED bunny for the sake of teaching the world about energy efficiency.
