Google PowerMeter now provides a simple analysis of your electrical consumption, compared to similar houses, and provides some recommendations for things you can do. It’s called “Take Action.”
Your provide two bits of information about your house: type and approximate size. From this, PowerMeter shows your average use and average always-on use, and provides a comparison to similar homes. PowerMeter provides some recommended actions selected from a broader list of things you can do -- not a lot new here (change to CFLs, program thermostat, etc.) -- it is unclear to me how the recommendations relate to my power use. You earn “Badges” for everything you mark “done”. One item I was happy to see: Get An Energy Audit.
Compared to Microsoft Hohm, this is incredibly simple, perhaps even simplistic. Our complaint about Hohm was that it was too complicated and detailed, although the more recent version has some really neat functionality, which at least makes the effort worth it. Google PowerMeter’s Take Action feature is a step forward, but only a small one.
