Incandescent Lights Kill Bunnies, Energy Efficient Lighting Doesn't.

cree light bunny videoPoring through the archives this morning, we came across this little video from Cree Lighting that we wrote about just over a year ago (The April Fools' Day post was called "No Joke: Incandescent Lighting Kills Bunnies"). It's a fun video, but it's also serious: incandescent lights kill bunnies, and it's an issue that we really feel deserves a lot more attention than it's gotten...

Okay, kidding, but really, incandescent lighting expends about 90% of its total energy consumption as waste heat, which means that if you're using incandescent lights, you're paying about ten times as much as you need to to run your lighting... and releasing about ten times as much pollution into the air as you need to... and, in the summer, probably spending a lot more money to cool your house than you need to... Ouch.

Add to that the horrific visual imagery of a melting chocolate bunny, and the destructive power of incandescent light bulbs really starts to hit home.

In short, we thought the video was worth a re-share. Hope you enjoy:

Now, for the scientifically inclined, here's another video we took a while back that demonstrates the temperature differences between a halogen recessed light, a compact fluorescent (CFL) recessed fixture, and a dimmable LED recessed light fixture. It's pretty stunning:

Now if you're really feeling proactive, check out some of Cree's cool LED lighting products in our energy efficient light shop, and know that if you make the upgrade today, you'll not only be taking steps to reduce your energy bills, make your home more comfortable, and help save the earth, but you'll be protecting chocolate bunnies everywhere.
