Quick Overview

Chimney Balloons are a cost effective and easy to use way to air-seal your chimney and prevent uncontrolled air movement.

Product Description

Chimney Balloons (AKA Chimney Pillows/Chimney Plugs) are inflatable dampers for your fireplace chimney, but unlike your existing damper provides a tight air-seal to stop uncontrolled air movement through your fireplace.  Made of 3 ply poly plastic the Chimney Balloons are easy to install, easy to remove, reusable, and cost effective.

Measurement - To measure your chimney for a balloon you will need a flashlight, a tape measure or carpenters ruler, and safety goggles (cause your chimney is dirty).  You will need to look in the chimney to find a spot with parralell walls, at least 6" of depth, and is unobstructed by the damper or other hardware. You should order a chimney balloon that is slightly larger than the space available, so choose one that is up to 6" larger in any dimendsion than you actually need. You want a snug fit with no gaps.

Nitty Gritty

Installation - Installation is simple and will again require a flashlight and saftey goggles. Using the clear inflation tube that comes with the Chimney Balloon partially inflate the balloon and maneuver it into place, tucking the edges in with your fingers if necessary. Inflate until the balloon is pressing tightly on all sides and close the red valve.  Be sure to use the included notice card to warn any potential fireplace users that there is a chimney balloon in place.

Removal - If you want to use your fireplace just open the vale and release the air from the Chimney Balloon, remove from place and enjoy a romantic fire.  Please wait at least 12-24 hours after your fire to reinstall.

"I recommend the balloon to everyone that has a wood burning fireplace. Fireplaces are made to remove smoke and heated combustion gases from a home. Removing heat occurs even when the fireplace is not in use.

The metal flue dampers have a very poor air sealing and warm air sneaks by them and exits the home. The chimney balloon completely seals the flue. When I do a blower door test and depressurize a home air blasts by closed flues and will blow ashes into the living space.

This does not happen when a balloon is installed. Virtually no air gets past the balloon.

They are also easy to install and remove which increases the chance that they will be used."
