Quick Overview

Wrap it! Snap-on Pipe Insulation ensures that heat goes where you want it (the tap) and doesn't get wasted along the way.

Product Description

This pipe insulation is easy to install, with a strip cut down one side for quick snap-on application, and reaps huge benefits for comfort and efficiency. Pipe insulation on domestic hot water pipes cuts back on heat loss through transmission by up to 80%, which reduces the amount of time your water heater needs to run, cuts back on waste heat in your house (which makes your house cooler and cuts back on air conditioning costs), and reduces the amount of time it takes for the water to heat up when you turn on the faucet (which saves both water and time). It can also raise the temperature of your hot water by 2-4 degrees, allowing for a lower temperature setting on your water heater (saving more money). Put it on cold water pipes and it will stop condensation from building up, keeping unwanted moisture out of your house. As an added benefit, it will soften those annoying plumbing noises. One package includes four 36" long pieces.

Pipe insulation should be a no-brainer for everyone, everywhere, all the time. Saves energy, saves money, saves noise, saves time. Super sexy? Maybe not. But easy enough for anyone to install, and if everyone were to take this one simple step, the collective result would be substantial.

I'd agree with Tom completely. Not only does pipe insulation save energy (and money), but saves time. Insulating my pipes has also cut down on plumbing noise, which is great. This is really one of those must-do things for anyone looking to save energy, or just to make their house run more smoothly and conveniently.

My order arrived quickly and I think it took me no more than 20 minutes to insulate the hot water pipes that run through my basement -- this is the easiest job I have done in years, and for a total of around $20, this has to have major bang for the buck.

The measurement, 1/2 inch, is the inner diameter of the pipe -- it's about 5/8" from the outside.

I noticed the impact right away -- the water from the tap was still hot 1/2 hour after the last use -- usually it's lukewarm or downright cold in winter. Just not having to run the tap until the water is hot is not just a convenience, but has to save a little, at least.
