Sylvania Digital Light Timer Switch

Quick Overview
Easy to use updated light timer switch with a few clever features.
Product Description
This digital timer switch from Sylvania allows for automatic control of lamps and light-duty appliances. Plug it directly into standard wall outlet, then plug in the thing you want to control. Simple set up allows 2 on/off settings per day. A large LCD display is easy to read.
It has two sockets: one controlled (timed) and the other uncontrolled -- no more blocked outlets like with other timers. 'Bout time, we think.
Pressing the door allows the controlled socket to be turned on and off manually. Cool!
The DST switch allows easy switching between standard and daylight savings time. Neat!
The battery backup (batteries included) saves the settings and time of day, so the timer won't have to be re-set after a power outage. Now we're talkin'!
We think this is a great update to those old fashioned mechanical timers that had those little plastic pieces that toddlers loved to eat as they were playing with all those neat looking cords and electrical things. (It's a miracle any of us survived the hazards of life, frankly. Not to mention toddlers.)
We Thought You'd Like To Know
Lamp timers have been used mostly as a security device for years -- turn on your lights, radio and other things to make your house look lived-in while you're away.
While this is still a great use for timer switches, think about a couple other possibilities that will help you save energy and lower your electricity bill.
If you have a lamp that you like to keep on, timers can switch it off after you're snug in bed. But here are some other ideas:
- Charge your cell phones, laptop or other battery gizmo every day for an hour or two in the morning before you get up.
- Turn off your cable boxes in times they are not in use late at night, or during the day -- those babies can really chew up a lot of electricity -- if you happen to get up at 3am, just hit the manual switch and you're good to go.
- Combine with a power strip to make sure everything is really off, not just mostly off
- Got an aquarium? Fish like having day and night, too, so use it to turn on their light for the recommended time
- Holiday lights
- Cable modem and router when they are never used anyway
These are all the kinds of devices that sometimes sip a little electrical juice, and sometimes gobble it right up.
Buy a few timers -- we're sure you'll find a clever use for it.
