Be able to pop it out and use it as a flashlight. It takes about 15 hours for the Sylvania to reach full charge, but then it lasts for about 3 hours in an outage. This is a little item, but I love it. It's a great, energy-efficient night light for the hall (much more efficient than leaving the hall lights on). Goes on if the power goes out, so I don't have to worry about anybody falling down the stairs.
