Quick Overview

A clean air, low wattage, refreshing alternative to (or supplement for) air conditioning -- far more efficient than conventional whole house fans, too.

Product Description

This whole house exhaust fan from Tamarack Technologies will slowly reduce the indoor air temperature of moderate-sized homes (1,200 to 2,200 square feet). Turning the fan on in the evening during hot, summer months will quickly exhaust the hot, stale air in the house through existing attic vents allowing cooler, outside air to be drawn in through the lower floors.

Whole house fans offer a wonderful, comfortable way to cool your house, as well as your attic after a sunny summer day.  In all but the hottest climates, whole house fans can often replace the need for air conditioning, or at least greatly reduce the amount of air conditioning needed, creating a comfortable, cool, fresh and well-ventilated space with far, far less electricity than air conditioning.

Quieter Than Conventional Whole House Fans

Unlike conventional whole house fans that draw thousands of cubic feet of air per minute and help occupants feel cooler by creating a breeze, these fans move air much more slowly - gradually lowering the indoor air temperature with cooler outdoor evening air over the course of many hours.  This fan is very, very quiet, and very efficient as well.  Standard whole house fans are noisy (most have a combination of cheap aluminum louvers that rattle, a heavy duty electric motor that rumbles, and poorly balanced fan blade that wobbles.)  Conventional fans can also be more dangerous, drawing carbon monoxide up from gas hot water heaters and furnaces in the basement.

This model fan features a two speed control. On low speed 900 cubic feet of air per minute (cfm) will be exhausted. On high speed 1600 cfm of air will be be moved.

Self-Sealing and Insulating: Retains Cool Air in Summer, Heated Air in Winter

When not in operation, the automatic motorized insulated door assembly closes tightly over the fan to provide an airtight seal. The door requires about 30 seconds to fully open or close. The 14" x 24" white grill attaches to the ceiling below for a clean, finished appearance.  Standard whole house fans can often be a significant souce of energy loss in winter months -- unless they are properly insulated and air sealed, they create a big hole in your house, contributing to the "chimney effect".

Easier To Install Than A Conventional Whole-House Fan

The fan will sit on either 16" on center or 24" on center rafters with no rafter cutting. It may be mounted vertically to exhaust from cathedral or vaulted spaces. In the attic, sufficient free air ventilation is required to exhaust the air being pushed into the attic from the fan. In the case of this fan, this means a 1.6 to 3.2 square foot screened opening or equivalent.

Standard whole house fans require a special and large hole to be cut through the ceiling joists, requiring an experienced carpenter and creating a large opening in your hallway ceiling.  The Tamarack fan has a completely different design and is far easier to install without altering the structure of your home.

In order to physically carry the fan into the attic, a 10 by 19 inch (or larger) open is required.

Remote Control Adds a New Level of Convenience

This unit comes with a wireless remote control. The transmitter features a signal operating light that goes on when the ON or OFF buttons are depressed. The control offers 256 unique security codes that are factory programmed into the system allowing multiple remote control units in the same building. The system's operating distance is 60' and is not restricted to "line-of-sight" applications because the system uses radio frequency control (303.875 MHz). The control is UL listed and is FCC certified in the U.S. and I.S.C. certified in Canada.
