Building Science Corporation (BSC) is the leading building science consultancy in the world. Joseph Lstiburek and Betsy Pettit, BSC’s principal and president, are leaders in the industry. BSC’s website,, is the information source of record for technical, free and accurate building science knowledge.

The Challenge

The Energy Circle team was tasked with combining BSC’s rich and educational materials, which were spread across four discrete sites, into a single, authoritative website. BSC had thousands of articles and past events that needed to be imported and cataloged.

Owing to the high quality of the content, and overall popularity, BSC’s website had excellent search engine rankings but was not SEO optimized. Lastly, their existing sites were not responsive or optimized for mobile traffic.

The Solution

Our development team implemented an organizational system for BSC’s articles and developed a robust search tool for users to peruse BSC’s various offerings (including events, services, books, projects and their expansive library of documents). The front end search feature spans more than ten document types, nine climate zones, and hundreds of titles, keywords and topics.

By optimizing the new site for SEO, BSC’s search engine rankings were not only maintained, they noticeably and immediately improved by more than 30%. Our team corrected all the incorrect and dead links. We also created a fully responsive website optimized for mobile.

BSC’s online presence now reflects their undeniable authority in the industry.
