Content Writer


We provide energy efficiency and renewable energy contractors with best-in-class web and marketing services. We currently count as clients over 300 businesses in 49 states, as well as many of the major institutions and associations of the better building sector. We measure our performance in the success of our clients and their impact on the world: our customers have delivered more than $1 billion in energy efficiency retrofits since we started. As a culture, we’re a small, flat organization: you’ll work directly with our CEO, report to the Director of Digital Strategy, and collaborate with the entire Energy Circle team.

The Position

A Content Writer at Energy Circle is at their core a savvy writer, creative and strategic thinker, and very strong project manager. They play a crucial role in creating content for Energy Circle’s digital marketing clients and website projects, as well as for the Energy Circle brand. They work closely with the rest of the content team, led by the Director of Digital Strategy, as well as Digital Marketing Account Managers, PPC Strategists and Web Design and Development teams. 

This individual must be able to:

  • Write engaging online content related to the primary industries in which Energy Circle specializes: energy efficiency, HVAC, home performance, and solar.

  • Produce the following content types: blog posts, landing pages, marketing copy, infographics, video scripts, Facebook ads, etc.

  • Demonstrate and adapt to SEO best practices (writing metadata, performing keyword research, etc.)

  • Produce content for a number of clients according to a monthly production calendar, and work closely with account managers to brainstorm content ideas

  • Attend and help lead new client onboarding and project kickoffs, interview clients, create sitemaps, and content strategies for new client websites.

  • Review and edit content produced by other writers

  • Collaborate with the EC internal sales and marketing team to produce ongoing content for EC brand outbound marketing channels.

  • Provide support as needed on webinars, podcasts, video production, image and testimonial curation, performance tracking and data analysis, new content product development, etc.


  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant work experience

  • 1-2 years of experience working in content development and/or writing, specifically

  • Exceptional writing abilities with an understanding of marketing concepts

  • Strong project and time management skills with an ability to meet quick deadlines

  • Capacity to take direction and apply constructive feedback to new projects and tasks

  • A commitment to developing deep knowledge of energy efficiency, home performance, building science, etc.

  • Superior attention to detail / Ability to meticulously proofread

Bonus points if you have any of the following:

  • A degree in English, journalism, marketing, communications or something similar

  • SEO skills (ensuring page titles, headings, metadata and body copy are all SEO friendly and make appropriate use of keywords)

  • Experience in some capacity with our client base: HVAC, Home Performance, Insulation Installers, Energy Auditors and Raters, Sustainable Builders and Remodelers, Solar Installers and Community Efficiency Programs.

  • Journalistic and research skills are a big plus - this role will be required to get to know and understand their clients’ preferences, tone-of-voice, brand standards, and gain deep knowledge of their service and product offerings as well as their target audience. Client-facing interview skills as well as a propensity for independent research and learning are all huge benefits.
