2023 was the year that California made big changes to its solar net metering incentives. Net Energy Metering 3.0, as the new rules are called, drastically reduce the value of net metering, and it's been estimated that the change could double or even triple the average payback period for solar installations.
California is often seen as a bellwether for the rest of the country, especially when it comes to the energy industry. Does this mean solar contractors in other states should be worried about how net metering might change for them?
